FOAM padding can be used in the same way as felt chiropody padding, or it can be applied directly over a painful area to cushion it. Use strapping / tape to secure.
Foam padding is pink – hypo-allergenic, soft and air-permeable. This can be used to
deflect pressure from the lesion (like OUR FELT CHIROPODY PADDING) but it is best used to cushion
the area by applying directly over the lesion.This is ideal for protective dressings on the balls of the foot or around the toes and also
between the toes.The foam should be cut
to size and then the adhesive backing peeled away and gently but firmly pushed
into place.The adhesive is low
allergy (hypo-allergenic - Hapla) but do not leave padding in situ too long.
Under pressure the foam
compresses thereby providing cushioning but it has excellent recovery.Some patients also prefer this since it is
pink and less noticeable in shoes and hosiery.
Most Chiropodists / Podiatrists use the 5mm depth padding where there is a
choice in depth.However, the patient
should be guided by how much room there is in their shoes. Chiropodists / Podiatrists usually secure the padding in place by
using hypo-allergenic ADHESIVE STRAPPING.
